Project #4 Fluid-Structural Vibrations of 1000 Elastic Fibers in a Cross-Flow
This project is a continuation of earlier work on spatial-temporal dynamics and chaos in flexible structural arrays of fibers in fluid flow. Wind tunnel tests will be conducted, experimental measurements and data analysis undertaken. Some analytical modeling may be involved depending on the skill and background of the student. Structural dynamics in fluids is an important problem in many energy systems as well as in damage to agricultural crop fields in strong winds.
Laboratory Work 70%, Analytical and computer simulation 30%.
Interested Students in this project should contact Ms. June Meyermann 607-255 0992 or jm75@cornell.edu for an appointment
